What is FSSAI Licence?

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) regulates food businesses under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Anyone who makes, stores, sells, distributes or serves food generally needs an FSSAI registration or licence, and must display the number on bills and packaging.

There are three levels: basic registration for small operators, a State licence for mid-sized businesses, and a Central licence for the largest operators, importers and certain categories. The level depends on your turnover and type of activity, so choosing correctly matters.

Is this right for you?

Who this is for

A good fit if you

  • Run a restaurant, cloud kitchen, bakery or food shop
  • Manufacture, pack, store or distribute food
  • Sell food online or through delivery apps
  • Import or export food products

Something else may suit you better if

You do not deal in food. FSSAI does not apply to you.

You also need other local approvals. See trade licence and shop and establishment licence.

You are a very small seller below the basic registration limit. A simpler registration may apply.

Timeline & cost

How long it takes and what it costs

Timing depends on the level and the authority. Basic registrations are quicker, while licences with inspections take longer.

Your total cost has two parts: our professional fee, and any government or statutory fees that apply. Government fees are set by the authority and vary by case, so we give you an itemised quote before you commit to anything. See our pricing page for packages.
