Trademark Class Finder
Find the likely trademark class for your product or service.
What are trademark classes?
When you register a trademark in India, you do not register a name in the abstract. You register it for specific goods or services. To keep the register organised, the Trade Marks Registry groups every kind of goods and services into numbered classes under the Nice Classification, an international system used by India and most other countries.
There are 45 classes. Classes 1 to 34 cover goods, such as chemicals, clothing and food. Classes 35 to 45 cover services, such as retail, software, restaurants and healthcare.
Why the right class matters
Your trademark protects the goods and services you name in your application. A brand registered in Class 25 for clothing is not, on its own, registered for a restaurant using the same name in Class 43. When your application is examined, and when others search before they file, similar goods and services in the same and related classes are compared with each other.
A wrong or incomplete choice can leave part of your business unprotected, or lead to objections that slow the application down. Government fees are also charged per class, so it helps to know early how many classes your business really needs. A business that spans different areas, such as a bakery that sells packaged food and also runs a cafe, will usually need more than one.
How to use the Trademark Class Finder
- Type what you sell or provide in simple words, for example “cotton shirts” or “mobile app”.
- Read the suggested class, why it may apply, and the other classes to consider.
- Copy the suggested wording as a starting point, and adjust it to describe your real goods or services.
- Before you file, check that your name is available and have your classes confirmed. Our trademark registration service handles the filing end to end.

Please note
The finder is an informational aid. It uses a curated list of common business categories, not the full official goods and services database, and it cannot guarantee the correct class or the outcome of an application.
