What is Copyright Registration?
Copyright protects original literary, artistic, musical and cinematographic works, sound recordings and software. In India it arises automatically when the work is created, but registration with the Copyright Office gives you official proof of ownership that is far easier to rely on in a dispute.
Copyright protects the expression of an idea, not the idea itself, and it does not protect names or slogans, which are trademark matters. For most original works it lasts for the author's lifetime plus 60 years.
